Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. And she can never let her leave.

They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.

Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.

But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way - even if it kills her.

Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.

"A tense, thrilling read - I found it impossible to put down. It’s dark and twisted, and I loved it." --Alex Michaelides, bestselling author of The Silent Patient

A Good read

I enjoyed the story very much. and the narr5was excellent. The only reason it didn't get the full 5 stars was because I could figure out who the psycho was really early so that was disappointing, but i still enjoyed the book.

Tiresome

Started off ok, then it got to be a bit much. Could have done without the tiresome whining about being a mother. I think I got the point from both perspectives about 3 hours in, the rest just became redundant and increasingly painful on the ears whenever a “Mommy” dialogue came along.

Repetitive but good

I found this book Repetitive and dragged out. There was no real resolution, which I found disappointing. I did enjoy the mother and daughter conflicts as they were very relatable.

7/10

Another captivating book by John Marrs!

Every single book has been amazing. I’m guaranteed a great story and will pounce on anything Marrs has written. The ending was so unpredictable!

Good twists

I enjoyed the twists in the story, but there was a lot of commentary that wasn’t needed or was repetitive.

Hard to get through

If you’re in the mood for a thoroughly depressing read with no redeeming characters this is it. If returning this book were possible I would have. It’s about 3 hours too long, even when skipping pages. The jumping around of timelines makes it even harder to focus as it’s just one similar dreary chapter after another. Glad it’s done.

Good, full of surprises, something missing

It was a great book. The reader was perfect! The book was good, there were a lot of twists, however, some better than others. It’s worth the read, not in my top 10 all the same.
