Publisher's Summary

On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shy, pretty, and talented with a drawing pencil but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: She invented a sweetheart.

A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter...and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.

Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep - handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He's wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters...and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.

Good read/listen

I enjoyed to general story and characters. It’s pretty sweet and overall nice. The only thing I’m
Bothered with is the fact that that all characters are self aware of the clean cut reason they are behaving in the way they are. Example ( unrelated to story. Consciously thinking I can’t accept this love because my father didn’t love me. No one thinks that way. Other then moments like that. I really did enjoy the novel and characters, they are quite relatable and the narrator did a great job.

This book was slightly different than her others, I found that I couldn’t stop smiling through the whole book!

The Narrator Made the Book

The story is okay.. parts of it are hilarious. But the narrator is exceptional and was the reason I don’t regret the purchase.

A book with funny moments

This is a sweet book. The meet-cute of these characters is funny and endearing. There is good but not great chemistry between them. all gets tied up neatly at the end. The heroine is strong and the hero is gallant. Plot moved forward nicely. Solid book overall.

Not what I had expected but …

Not what I expected. I thought it would be a bit more manly and pushy; which I must admit I was secretly hoping for. Still a great story, not what you’d expect and at times a bit of a heart tugger.
