Story
For years, Sue Monk Kidd was a conventionally religious woman. Then, in the late 1980s, she experienced an unexpected awakening, and began a journey toward a feminine spirituality. With the exceptional storytelling skills that have helped make her name, Kidd tells her very personal story of the fear, anger, healing, and freedom she experienced on the path toward the wholeness that many women have lost in the church.

Story
In her mesmerizing fourth work of fiction, Sue Monk Kidd takes an audacious approach to history and brings her acclaimed narrative gifts to imagine the story of a young woman named Ana. Raised in a wealthy family with ties to the ruler of Galilee, she is rebellious and ambitious, with a brilliant mind and a daring spirit. She engages in furtive scholarly pursuits and writes narratives about neglected and silenced women. Ana is expected to marry an older widower, a prospect that horrifies her. An encounter with 18-year-old Jesus changes everything.

Story
From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Story
From simple practices such as walking, working, and getting lost to deep meditations on topics like prayer and pronouncing blessings, Taylor reveals concrete ways to discover the sacred in the small things we do and see. Something as ordinary as hanging clothes on a clothesline becomes an act of devotion if we pay attention to what we are doing and take time to attend to the sights, smells, and sounds around us. Making eye contact with the cashier at the grocery store becomes a moment of true human connection.

Basically a research article on self-help for the empty Nester.
Based on some type of new age bible, she tries to bring single bible verses to life using caterpillars, butterflies, and some of her life experiences living in an affluent, ivory world. The audible first 4 chapters is interrupted too often with references from scriptures. Chapters 5 through seven are enlightening and interesting. The remainder of the book reiterates chapters 5 through seven. A novel about caterpillars and butterflies going through life would have been more entertaining.
I truly loved her previous novels. Also the narrator was very dry. Maybe a different narrator could help bring this book to life.

Beautifully contemplative for life changes
This autobiography is chock-full of quotes from Christian sages that have gone on the contemplative journey to finding one’s true self/soul as well as Sue Monk Kidd‘s own well-expressed feelings, experiences and thoughts.
Moving into retirement, I found this book timely and hopeful. That is, the reminder to wait and not rush busily, is a positive way to start a new phase in life.

Hard to listen to…
I cannot put my finger on what got under my skin while listening. In some ways it felt shallow. Pop spiritually.
