Before World War II could reach its conclusion, the world suffered what could only be defined as a cataclysm.

Legend has it that an experiment failed. Catastrophically so. And when it failed, the center of the United States, from the Sierra Nevada to the Mississippi river, became "The Waste", where everything changed.

In The Waste, every fantasy creature, fairytale demon, or mythological monster exists. From orcs, to neriads, ogres, trolls, wraiths, elves, harpies, and even beastmen. They all exist, and all despise humankind.

In the ruins of the west and east coasts, new governments have arisen. With new jobs.

Vince is a Ranger, a profession whose sole job duty is surviving in the waste, and taking missions from the Ranger Guild. Be it courier services, escorts, or simply exploring tombs and cities.

Taking up an escort mission, Vince encounters a situation that will shape his life forever onward.

As well as the lives of everyone in North America.

Warning: This novel contains adult themes and moral ambiguities. The main character is written as a real person in an apocalypse, and will not make choices that line up with society and cultural norms.

I found the story very entertaining and engaging. I look forward to the next installment of this series, the story was belivable.

The world ended when magic appeared... but that population gender gap sure makes for some nice down time... when you are not fighting for your life of coarse.

Coming to this series from super heroes on super sale, I was expecting something similar - not a classy novel, I know what I'm in for, but this book surprised me with how much un asked for sex scenes were involved.

Narration is great and there is a story in there, but I'm frankly not willing to look for it. Needs more plot, less "plot"

Lots of sex.... If you removed the sex scenes, you'd have 4 hrs of content. His books tend to have quite repetitive sentence/slang structures. For example, a character explains something and often you'd get the generic replies, "well.... I guess that makes... a lot of sense, actually." lots and lots of halts between character speeches. So it gets a bit old after a while. I hope the author learns about this, as I've listen to his other books.
