Publisher's Summary

Before World War II could reach its conclusion, the world suffered what could only be defined as a cataclysm.

Legend has it that an experiment failed. Catastrophically so. And when it failed, the center of the United States, from the Sierra Nevada to the Mississippi river, became "The Waste", where everything changed.

In The Waste, every fantasy creature, fairytale demon, or mythological monster exists. From orcs, to neriads, ogres, trolls, wraiths, elves, harpies, and even beastmen. They all exist, and all despise humankind.

In the ruins of the west and east coasts, new governments have arisen. With new jobs.

Vince is a Ranger, a profession whose sole job duty is surviving in the waste, and taking missions from the Ranger Guild. Be it courier services, escorts, or simply exploring tombs and cities.

Taking up an escort mission, Vince encounters a situation that will shape his life forever onward.

As well as the lives of everyone in North America.

Warning: This novel contains adult themes and moral ambiguities. The main character is written as a real person in an apocalypse, and will not make choices that line up with society and cultural norms.

Uh.... I guess... That makes a lot of sense...

Lots of sex.... If you removed the sex scenes, you'd have 4 hrs of content. His books tend to have quite repetitive sentence/slang structures. For example, a character explains something and often you'd get the generic replies, "well.... I guess that makes... a lot of sense, actually." lots and lots of halts between character speeches. So it gets a bit old after a while. I hope the author learns about this, as I've listen to his other books.

Fantasy Venture, Mythical Creatures; and One Stud

This is a good fantasy adventure story that has continuously evolved through the first three books.
There is plenty of action and surprises as the series develops and we follow the progression of Vince, who begins this adventure as a lone ranger in the “Wild Wastes.”
He’s not alone for long, however, and apparently doesn’t turn away any manner of female companionship, whether she has horns, tusks, or even insect legs; Vince is going to spread his seed and we hear every slurping, gurgling, explicitly wild detail; and let me tell you, he’s one busy stud.
Other than the graphic nature of these books, there is a good and interesting story line and I will continue to listen to the next book
As for the narrator; I thought Andrea Parsneau’s performance was outstanding.

Finally a believable and smart main character.

It did take me a bit to get into the story. After so many poorly written or concieved plots points from other authors, it is a true marvel to have a Hero who is not stupid or being saved by a author's ham handed attempts at conflict resolution.
I believe I would have made many of the same decisions as he did. I found the author's world and concepts a novel idea and approach to making the conflicts and plot devices believable and engrossing.

Came for the story, got caught with harem porn.

This book has no plot or character motivations aside from getting into the pants of the main protagonist. It's roughly 20% story and the rest is nearly unadulterated pornography. The story fails in so many ways, that the only reason to pick up this book is to jerk off to the overly detailed sex scenes.

Decent story, but painful to listen to.

the story here is fine, if a little juvenile. that said, the narration here is so melodramatic, halting, and awkward that I just couldn't make myself muddle through it.

too much sex but story is ok

unless you are turned on by weird fantasy sex with ant women and orcs, just ff the sex. it was graphic and frankly disgusting. the story was pretty good but mostly a rehash of selfless hero and ssosh. handsome man unwittingly then wittingly rescues damsels in distress who then throw themselves at him in devotion and lust. together they form a weird family and work to right wrongs and savr the world. and have lots of sex. i read this because ssosh3 is a crossover with this world. otherwise i would not have bothered. wda/rd is a very enjoyable writer who writes the same story over and over.

More of a porno in words then a story

Book was pretty good depending on what your into I enjoy romance novels/action novels a bit but man this one was more of a fantasy parody porn book then a story the scene of intimacy lasted longer then the telling of the action, but it was the first of its kind I’ve really listened too so I was taken by surprise.

Smut in a poor disguise.

The hero has no personality whatsoever. You can expect him to do the most obvious thing there is, and while I'm expected to believe he's an in-control, intelligent protagonist, he mostly just stumbles through the plot without ever actually driving it. I think that's my problem with the story in general; it sort of just... happens, and the characters react to it predictably.

The characters themselves are all one-dimensional sexual exploits. You have the brave, brash one, and she is always brave and brash. You have the smart submissive one, and she is always smart and submissive. Honestly, the most in-depth character is a half-ant with no personality, so that should tell you all you need to know.

And none of the above would bother me if this was just a smut piece. I don't require smut to be high art, but if it's smut, just let it be smut. Stringing together hours of plot between sex scenes, and then having the sex be boring, is just ridiculous. That's right prospective buyer, THE SEX IS BORING. Even the "dominant" female characters are actually sexually submissive, despite what the author wants you to believe (you can tell he has a type), and all of the scenes are so vanilla it's like I'm reading a Lifetime movie.

Large potential unrealized

If this book hadn't degenerated into a harem fantasy it could have been quite the interesting novel.
