Publisher's Summary

Trees can't tell jokes, but they can certainly tell stories....

Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood "wishtree" - people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red's branches. Along with her crow friend, Bongo, and other animals who seek refuge in Red's hollows, this "wishtree" watches over the neighborhood.

You might say Red has seen it all. Until a new family moves in. Not everyone is welcoming, and Red's experiences as a wishtree are more important than ever.

Funny, deep, warm, and nuanced, Wishtree is Newbery Medalist and New York Times best-selling author Katherine Applegate at her very best - writing from the heart and from a completely unexpected point of view.

Easy reading, great message!

I read this book with my class of grade 3/4 students. It was an easy read and the message of loving nature and all human beings was lovely. The reader of the audiobook is very fluid and takes on the voice of the wishtree very well (think: Grandmother Willow vibes from Pocahontas). Would definitely recommend! #Audible1

Tree Wishes (Because Wish Tree!)

1. I loved the story from the trees perspective. Winsome and engaging. I wish there were series that “branched off” this one. Because tree branches! Hahaha!

2. I love the serious issues it address from a long view of historical rootedness (because trees) and that the racism and environment are addressed through relationships. I wish that all issues could be learned in an unassuming, but clear way.

3. I wish for more delightful titles by Katherine and read by Nancy. I have listened to this one a few times now for the humour and relaxation of knowing a good story and what to expect.

Beautiful story!

I enjoyed this audio book just as much as my children that are 3,7,8 & 10. The story was beautiful and teaches a great lesson as well as unlocks the imagination.
The narration was wonderful as well.

Beautiful story

This is a great story about kindness, friendship, family, Heritage, and so much more. I loved how well everything tied together. It was thought provoking and made me want to be a kinder person.

MAGICAL!

I am nine. I have read three of Katherine Applegate's books: The One and Only Ivan, Crenshaw, and Wishtree! I love them all! They each leave me wanting to be a better person. The Wishtree taught me about accepting others, especially those who are not like us.

Friendships come in many forms. This is a story of a friendship between a tree, a boy, and a girl. It was MAGICAL!

By the way, if you like the Wishtree, you will love The One and Only Ivan, my favorite of the three.

Excellent and a delightful read!

Everyone ought to read this book, children and adults alike. Children will love it and adults will ponder it. This book shows that children can be easily taught and they can often be our best teachers.

Good quick read

Good upper elementary age book! Theme of acceptance and friendship through taking critters and a wide old tree.
