Story
Ivan is an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all. Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he's seen and about his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. But mostly Ivan thinks about art and how to capture the taste of a mango or the sound of leaves with color and a well-placed line.

Story
Eleven-year-old Willodeen adores creatures of all kinds, but her favorites are the most unlovable beasts in the land: strange beasts known as “screechers”. The villagers of Perchance call them pests, even monsters, but Willodeen believes the animals serve a vital role in the complicated web of nature. Lately, though, nature has seemed angry indeed. Perchance has been cursed with fires and mudslides, droughts and fevers, and even the annual migration of hummingbears, a source of local pride and income, has dwindled.

Publisher's Summary
Trees can't tell jokes, but they can certainly tell stories....
Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood "wishtree" - people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red's branches. Along with her crow friend, Bongo, and other animals who seek refuge in Red's hollows, this "wishtree" watches over the neighborhood.
You might say Red has seen it all. Until a new family moves in. Not everyone is welcoming, and Red's experiences as a wishtree are more important than ever.
Funny, deep, warm, and nuanced, Wishtree is Newbery Medalist and New York Times best-selling author Katherine Applegate at her very best - writing from the heart and from a completely unexpected point of view.

Easy reading, great message!
I read this book with my class of grade 3/4 students. It was an easy read and the message of loving nature and all human beings was lovely. The reader of the audiobook is very fluid and takes on the voice of the wishtree very well (think: Grandmother Willow vibes from Pocahontas). Would definitely recommend! #Audible1

Tree Wishes (Because Wish Tree!)
1. I loved the story from the trees perspective. Winsome and engaging. I wish there were series that “branched off” this one. Because tree branches! Hahaha!
2. I love the serious issues it address from a long view of historical rootedness (because trees) and that the racism and environment are addressed through relationships. I wish that all issues could be learned in an unassuming, but clear way.
3. I wish for more delightful titles by Katherine and read by Nancy. I have listened to this one a few times now for the humour and relaxation of knowing a good story and what to expect.

MAGICAL!
I am nine. I have read three of Katherine Applegate's books: The One and Only Ivan, Crenshaw, and Wishtree! I love them all! They each leave me wanting to be a better person. The Wishtree taught me about accepting others, especially those who are not like us.
Friendships come in many forms. This is a story of a friendship between a tree, a boy, and a girl. It was MAGICAL!
By the way, if you like the Wishtree, you will love The One and Only Ivan, my favorite of the three.
