Publisher's Summary

A stunning, addictive fantasy debut that combines intrigue, magic, betrayal, and romance in an original world with a historical WWI tone. In an original world reminiscent of Edwardian England in the shadow of a world war, cabals of noble families use their unique magical gifts to control the fates of nations, while one young man seeks only to live a life of his own.

Moving at a brilliant pace and pulsing with deadly intrigue and unforgettable characters, Witchmark grabs listeners and doesn't let go until the thrilling conclusion.

Magic marked Miles Singer for suffering the day he was born, doomed either to be a slave to his family's interest or to be committed to a witches' asylum. He went to war to escape his destiny and came home a different man, but he couldn't leave his past behind. The war between Aeland and Laneer leaves men changed, strangers to their friends and family. Even after faking his own death and reinventing himself as a doctor at a cash-strapped veteran's hospital, Miles can't hide what he truly is.

Read, Don't Listen.

This is a delightful story, charming and engaging. Don't listen to this version. The actor is too brusque, too heavy for the light dialogue. He doesn't give distinct appropriate voices to the characters.

Brilliant

Loved the characters and the story. Or should I say beginning of the story. Going to start the next in the series right away!

excellent!

Loved the characters and the narrator was perfect . The LGBT theme was perfectly written in a way that just seemed completely natural - as it should be! Great book!

Excellent Magical Fantasy - Canadian Author!

Intially slow paced, (lots of interesting world building) in an Edwardian like time, with Dr. Miles working with patients who exhibit severe post war trauma. The slow pace picks about 1/3rd of the way through up as he stumbles on a mystery and also starts a unexpected romantic relationship.

If you like thoughtful, well written, LBGTQ+ (slightly romantic) fantasy - I highly recommend.

The narration of this well written novel is disappointing. The flashes of humour, and the banter between characters gets lost in a very wooden delivery, and there are times I cannot work out who is saying what as the tonal differentiation between the two main male protagonists is slight. I did perservere once I checked he is not narrating the next book in the series.
