Publisher's Summary

It’s one kid versus an entire band of space pirates in this cosmic middle grade caper from New York Times bestselling author Dan Wells.

Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage. With everyone he knows fast asleep, it’s up to Zero to think fast and find a way to stop them–all on his own.

The full cast for this production includes Emily Woo Zeller, Margaret Ying Drake, Betsy Hogg, Josh Hurley, Jonathan Davis, Jennifer Van Dyck, Chelsea Spack, Charlie Thurston, David Shih, Eunice Wong, Eddy Lee, Allyson Johnson, and Polly Lee.

Now available in Dolby Atmos on Audible.

Good for a road trip

My son loved this book. We both listened to it on a recent trip, and he was quiet for the entire 4 hours, and asked if there was a print version. Anything that makes a twelve year old want to read and not play on the iPad is a win in my books... Looking forward to the next one.

Enjoyed it

I really enjoyed this book. I'm definitely not the target audience for it but man is it fun. I think I'm going to make a bedtime story out of it for my kids. They'll LOVE it! Space and pirates? They'll want to hear it everyday.

Why is every audiobook not this amazing!!!???

Wow! It makes such a difference with a full orchestra soundtrack and a superbly acted full cast. Nix was my favorite! Big Mama was the best acted - if only slightly as all voices were brilliant! I almost never leave a review, probably only my 2nd one ever, but I felt I had to. This is not just a kids story, this is one of the best books, if not the best fiction book, on Audible! All other audiobooks have one narrator or do not have a full epic movie-style soundtrack, with just the right tense heart pounding music at the right moments. This was even better than a Radio-Play; this was more llke watching a Movie in my mind. The descriptions and scenery made me forget this was audio; I can 'remember' the layout of the ship, the colour of the bulkheads, the faces of each character. I can't wait to listen to book 2.

Light hearted, Charming and exciting

The story follows a young boy named “Zero” as we navigates a colony space ship.
The cast truly brought the story and characters to life and I recommend it for anyone looking for a lighter science fiction story

Finished in one session. Wonderful

I ended up listening to this in one 8 hour session because I got so into the story. There is an element of “Home Alone” here that is just as charming as the movie, and the young kid is just as cute.
Recommended for all ages, I am late 50’s.

Good story for a younger audience

Younger audiences will appreciate the story and the bravery required by the boy and his friend
