COVID changed millions of lives.

Mine almost ended because of it.

In 2021, what started as flu-like symptoms turned into multiple hospital stays, dangerously low oxygen levels, pneumonia, and eventually the discovery of multiple blood clots in my lungs and both legs—including one pressing against the right side of my heart.

My wife was hospitalized with COVID at the same time. Because of hospital restrictions, we couldn't even be together. We had to FaceTime each other from separate hospital rooms while neither of us really knew what was going to happen.

I recovered.

Then, in June 2022, it happened again.

While celebrating our anniversary, I suddenly recognized that same feeling: I couldn't breathe normally. I told my wife to take me to the emergency room because I knew what was happening.

I was right.

More blood clots.

That second episode changed things permanently. Today, I take blood thinners twice a day and likely will for the rest of my life.

Recent discussion surrounding Dr. Anthony Fauci brought many of those memories back and made me realize that although I've talked about COVID before, I've never really told my own story.

This episode isn't about telling you what to believe about COVID, Fauci, vaccines, masks, mandates, or the government's response.

It's about something that can easily get lost when we debate those things:
