Osnat was born five hundred years ago - at a time when almost everyone believed in miracles, but very few believed that girls should learn to read. Yet Osnat's father was a great scholar whose house was filled with books. Then, she in turn grew up to teach others, becoming a wise scholar in her own right, the world's first female rabbi! Some say Osnat performed miracles - like healing a dove who had been shot by a hunter! But, perhaps, her greatest feat was to be a light of inspiration for other girls and boys, to show that any person who can learn might find a path that none have walked before.

Every year when families gather for the Passover holiday, the youngest child poses that question as part of the poetic Four Questions near the start of the Seder. The answers are no less than the story of a people bound in slavery, their suffering in a foreign land, and their ultimate liberation - the story of Passover. Here the Four Questions are presented with refreshing clarity, providing insight into the symbols and rituals of the holiday.

Story0
This true story begins long ago in Spain, where a bride and groom are gifted a hand-painted haggadah. It is used at many Passover seders until the Spanish Inquisition when the family escapes. The haggadah survived for centuries in different countries. Scholars declared it a treasure. To protect it from the Nazis, a curator smuggled it out of a Sarajevo museum and hid it in a village mosque. On Passover of 1995, with bombs exploding overhead, the Bosnian president brought out the book from an underground vault to show the world that it was safe.

Story0
The exercises in this book use everyday Jewish items to inspire mindfulness in children. Imagine you have a piece of fresh challah in one hand and a spoonful of hot chicken soup in the other. Smell the challah, blow on the soup. Lie down, close your eyes, and "take a walk" through your body from head to toe. Or meditate with a special word shalom, which means "peace." Our minds are like forests, and our thoughts are like monkeys jumping through the trees.
