De syv børn havde én ting til fælles: De kom til verden på Rigshospitalets fødegang B, og de skulle alle syv bortadopteres. I månederne efter fandt frøkenerne på det berømte spædbørnehjem Kongslund nye familier til dem rundt om i Danmark, og de voksede op uden at ane det mindste om deres fortid. Et af børnene bar på en hemmelighed, som for enhver pris skulle skjules. Da en ældre kvinde mange år senere blev fundet død på en strandbred tæt ved børnehjemmet, opstod den sag, der kom til at plage hele nationen: Havde det hæderkronede børnehjem gennem et halvt århundrede skjult skandaler på højeste plan?

As the police puzzle over their bizarre findings, the Twin Towers fall in walls of flame and the case is quickly overshadowed by the terror half a world away.
