The Bible tells us that Abraham was God's friend and he was chosen to head up all of God's people, including us in the Church today. They were not a perfect family, indeed, these stories will raise your eyebrows at times, they are so dysfunctional. The story of Abraham is a journey through life. It is a journey all of us are called to make.

We bring together these two books on Covid to look at it in a realistic way. Does it make sense to shut down the entire world for Covid? We don't think so! The story of Jacob gives me hope. Jacob is no less than a rogue. If Jacob were alive in the 21st century, he would be one of those ruthless entrepreneurs who would take advantage of their staff and pay them a pittance. He would outwit his competitors and pull every trick in the book. Jacob would be the JR Ewing. Why does Jacob give me hope? Quite simply, if God can love, choose, and accept a character like Jacob, then he will accept me, who has failed him continually for the past 60 years.

The Church is a great organisation, but it is achieving little today. Therefore, any burdened that the Church is achieving little need to study the character of Isaac and learn from him. This book seeks to recount the life of Isaac, and look for deeper meaning related to us in the 21st century, but I must confess, I found this a difficult book to write, and I hope this does not detract from the content.

Abraham's life is a story that reflects all of our lives. Where are we on that story?
