Story
The Three Taps is the first of Ronald Knox’s detective stories to feature private investigator Miles Bredon. In this case, Miles is sent by his employer - the appropriately named Incredible Insurance Company - to investigate the death of Mr. Mottram, who recently took out one of their so-called Euthanasia policies. The victim was clearly gassed; but whether it was an accident or planned is a matter for some debate.

Story
Private investigator Miles Bredon is spending a weekend with his wife, Angela, at the Halliford’s country house. The occasion is a singularly ill-assorted, and ill-fated, house party and Miles soon wishes he hadn’t bothered. Myrtle Halliford cajoles her guests into joining in with an "eloping game", which involves chasing cars across the countryside at night; but the following morning, the body of one of the guests - a man of influence and affluence - is discovered in the silo.... Was his death an accident caused by fumes of poisonous gas; or was it suicide?

Story
Is the ‘perfect murder’ possible? Can that crime be committed with such consummate care, with such exacting skill, that it is unsolvable—even to the most astute investigator? In this unique collection, legendary crime writers Margery Allingham, Anthony Berkeley, Freeman Wills Crofts, Ronald Knox, Dorothy L. Sayers and Russell Thorndike each attempt to create the unsolvable murder, which Superintendent Cornish of the CID then attempts to unravel.
