Publisher's Summary

New town, new school. Same story. I'm Laura, I've spent most of my life crisscrossing the county yielding to the whims of my transient mother. We've never stayed in one place long enough to call it home, and I don't have any hope of that changing.

I follow the rules; no drawing attention to myself, no friends, and especially, no boys.

But my mom's been keeping secrets - secrets so profound they threaten to turn my world upside down. I've always assumed her paranoia was a symptom of a mental illness, but as her secrets begin to unravel, I realize nothing is what it seems.

As my life careens out of control, a group of guys from school promise to give me answers about who I really am. I'm afraid of what I might learn, but more afraid of what I could be giving up if I don't listen.

Contains mature themes.

Awesome series

I have now completed the entire series. I really enjoyed it! Easy listen, fairly unique, and complex enough that it drew me in.

A new favorite

I LOVE how steady the first half of the book is - how thoroughly and realisticly she takes in her new life and situations. Laura is also not stupid or naive. And not rushed. I'm looking forward to the next 3 books following the same characters, too, from the same point of view. Good narration, too. Some of the guys voices are a bit difficult to differentiate, but what can you do. Near the middle of the story, I found it annoying how long it took for Laura correct Airs on her name. For a minute I thought there was a typo in the book and they accidentally changed her name, but she does address it.

Typical reverse harem paranormal

I liked the plot in this series but found the main character to be a whiny, selfish brat. Her hangups about sex are dreadful and make me not like her very much, and I particularly don’t like how she tries to make the male characters feel guilty because of her hangups. She’s way too needy and insecure to end up being the strong character. Don’t get me wrong - I don’t mind the whole girl power thing, but for a character whose independence is stressed at the beginning of the series, she ends up not being that way at all. I get that the character is supposed to be ‘innocent’ but this took it a little too far for me - not many in the school system are that naive at 17. A bit more on the plot and a bit less on the relationship drama would have made this worth a listen. This series may be meant for younger people than my old, jaded self, though.

I liked the narrator. She did great with both the male and female voices, the tempo was good and aside from mispronouncing “wary”, I didn’t find anything about the narration or her voice objectionable or irritating.

Spiciness level – low to medium.

Okay so far hopefully it gets better

The lead girl’s personality can get annoying but I’m assuming the books are going to have her grow in her self confidence, the story is interesting enough I can tell where it’s going but I’m interested enough to keep going

not to bad i guess

Laura would make me fustrated alot, like when one of the guys upset her of make her mad or do something considered rude. And she can't even be mad for more then a minute about it...so close to ending the book... don't know if I'll make it to book two.

Too slow and very boring

This book is absolutely irritating!!! 18 chapters in and they still haven’t spit out the information. It’s so, so slow. Chapter after chapter it's the same thing, the boys acting differently around her when alone, vs when others are around and alluding to information that never gets shared. I keep thinking, "Enough already, just spit it out and get on with the story!!"

I suffered through to the end and still got no information. It felt like the author hadn't quite figured out the rest of the story, or what an Infinity was so couldn't divulge the information. They were writing with no direction or outline.
For example: The boys keep saying they grew up knowing about what they were, but not once is it clearly explained, nothing about the community or the varying powers. They don't seem to practice their powers, except the oldest and are lost when she amplifies them or takes some for herself. There is no fact-finding in getting information about her mom, or even an Infinity library to give them...and us, some insight. No elders, no council, nothing. The diner owner is part of the community and older, but even she doesn't provide any insight, not a word. She doesn't give information about herself, her powers, information that came down the years, and no introductions to her mate are done.

Out of the blue the FL discloses that her mom lost her shine, but never seemed to get older....you would think that would lead to the boys mentioning something further about the Infinity community, like if they live long lives, what the number of mates mean in terms of status, if her mom always sleeping as soon as she came to the community meant she was too far or too close to her own mate(s), or if it would lead to more questions like if she ever saw a birthmark on her mom, but nope.

The boys allude to the FL being in danger if they let others know what she is to them, but from what? is there a history of a group hunting them? stealing powers? even they don't know....and yet, even with that threat looming, there are all these instances with random girls, including the assistant in the house...send her home, end of story, now let's move on, but nope, that is not the case, they just have her around creating unnecessary angst and being fearful she'll find out about the FL. Exasperating.

I kept thinking that this book needed to be written with a clear story in place and with older teens, like ones in college so the desire between the older brother and the girl isn't so off-putting considering she is 17 and he is 21?. Also, it would create a higher level of maturity, but now I almost wonder if the lack of maturity in the book is as a result of the author. The relationships are so stilted and talk about a lack of communication.

Seeing the book from the POV from the guys' perspective may have made the book more enjoyable and moved the story along and it may have been better to have a male narrator as well. Just because someone has a nice voice does not mean they'll make a good narrator. The narrator doesn't do well in a book like this with so many characters. All the females, even older ones, sound the same, with an immature, almost high-pitched voice and all the males have the same gruff voice.
