Fischer has everything he could possibly want in life: a menagerie of cute animal companions, a waterfront property from which to fish, friendships that blossom more and more by the day, and enough coffee to take out a small elephant—or a really large dog. If it were up to him, he'd spend the rest of his life laying in the shade with Maria at his side, a rod in one hand and a fresh pastry in the other. Unfortunately for Fischer, cosmic forces still don't care about mortal feelings.

Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

The usual result of a human taking a runaway semitruck head-on is a very sudden, very fast track to the pearly gates. But for one newly noncorporeal man, there's another option: become a dungeon. Feeling sorry for the desperate angel assigned to him, the man relents. Heck, if it doesn't work out, he can always chat with Saint Peter about it later. Next thing you know, he's a dungeon. Admittedly, a small run-down, somewhat unimpressive dungeon (more of a house, actually), but you gotta start somewhere, right?

Publisher's Summary
Meddling gods. A magical card system. An apocalypse no one could have predicted.
Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that?
When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.
Jake, wasting his day slacking off in the cooler, as he usually did, found himself alone in a completely new and very dangerous world. Can he learn to survive? Can he collect enough cards and create a good enough deck to fight back against the monsters that have overtaken his former home? And why are these strange people that look a lot like elves knocking on the door of the market he is hiding in and asking to buy some of his goods?
The gods may have stacked the deck against him, but Jake just might have a few cards up his sleeve that will help him survive.

Not sure yet
Interesting enough to see where the story goes. However the radical change in plot does not leave much room for the story to evolve. The main character gets too strong in book one that leaves no room for plot development. I was really looking forward to his return to earth. The massive power up could have been saved for later on in the series.

Very good!!
This story diverged from where I thought it was going. Exceptional magic system, great world building and perfect pace. The card system is deep enough to be explored and still leave questions. There aren’t pages upon pages of stats, just tiny reminders of what cards are where once in a while. Magnificent.

overall I enjoy the story though the MC is a bit annoying for me and some of the choices he makes throughout the story feel a bit plot forced. other than that though it's an overall good story with strong characters and an interesting premise

One of the Good ones
Days later and im still thinking about it. I hope there will be a second book.
Story : similar to many other LITRPG apocalypse books, but a cut above when it comes to world building imo. It takes awhile to get there, but its not just "a system arrived, the end". I also appreciate that there are no "end of the world, guess we will start a raping" plots that most post apocalyptic story villains seemed obsessed with. Like get real. The villains are pretty good imo, mostly obsessed with power or control, which to me is more realistic in a live or die situation.
Character Development : He is often thrust into things outside of his control and so he is mostly a reactionary character. This is fine, though it makes you a bit frustrated for him since he just wants to chill and live a life. That being said, the plot is great so it worked out.
Romance : I added this because so many people ask about romances/harems in webnovel forms. This book had some realistic romances along the way, but are really short bits dedicated to it. He is more of a realistic person and the writing doesnt fixate on relationships considering their situation, but character isnt a wood board either. Overall done well, i dislike it when the character doesnt have romances, but i dislike it more when a character could be off doing something with his life but instead is sitting around getting complimented by his 3 brides he met a day before marrying. Overall props to the author for staying focused on the point of the story
Thanks author, you made my week with this novel. Looking forward to a second book, its one of the good ones.
