Histoire
The four fires in this story are passion, religion, warfare, and fire itself. While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

Prepare for BIG feelings
"Jessica" by Bryce Courtenay is not just a novel; it's a journey through the resilience of the human spirit. Based on a true story, this book grips you from the very first page and doesn't let go. It's a tale of resistance and grit, showcasing the indomitable strength of its characters in the face of adversity.
What makes "Jessica" truly captivating is its ability to touch the depths of the human heart. Courtenay weaves a narrative that delves into the intricacies of family and the bonds of love that truly define us. Excellent!!
I have read all of Bryce's books and loved them. He tells a great story and is one of my favourite authors. This is the first one I've listened to and it was wonderful! Humphrey Bower's narration more than did justice to the book.
I will be listening to all the others.
Thank you both!
