Publisher's Summary
This definitive portrait of Lucille Ball is based on the recollections of fellow performers, including Milton Berle, Ginger Rogers, Bob Hope, and Katherine Hepburn; her closest friends and family; and Lucille herself. From her childhood, when her virtual abandonment instilled in her a relentless drive for love and attention, through her struggling years in Hollywood and her troubled relationship with Desi Arnaz, Brady vividly recounts the story of this passionate and vulnerable woman.
What the critics say
"While Brady is a fan, she is also a fine biographer. Her admiration is both clear-eyed and penetrating. With insight and impressive detail, Brady goes beyond Ball's most famous creation, Lucy Ricardo, to expose the complex, determined woman." (Chicago Sun-Times)

Amazing Biography
I totally enjoyed this book. The details of Lucy’s life from her childhood until the end. The author gave a very detailed look into the many peaks and valley’s of Lucy’s life. The narrator was very good as well. I would recommend this book to any one that enjoyed the I Love Lucy shows or enjoy Biographies.

Exhaustive No-Nonsense Biography
This is a punctiliously-researched straightforward retrospective. Author Kathleen Brady chooses to simply present every concievable pivotal event in Lucille Ball's life without much in the way of comment (from childhood through professional accomplishments through marriage & motherhood, etc.). The "Here it is - Draw your own conclusions" approach is admirable.. but the lack of any insightful comment results in a reasonably dry book (Brady relies on quotes from friends, family, and contemporaries to add color to the unswerving narrative). Brady's further religious adherence to a strict chronological format contributes to the "clinical" impression I got from the book.
Fortunately, the subject matter is so interesting that the book kept my attention and provoked plenty of enlightening thought between listening sessions.
The above-average reading performance by C.M. Hébert (backed up with exemplary production standards from Blackstone Audio) definitely contributes to the favorable impression I got for 'Lucille: The Life Of Lucille Ball', too.
True, Hébert reads far too slowly (setting playback speed at 1.15X was required to yield a natural-sounding experience), but her diction, timbre, and cadence are genuinely praiseworthy.
Altogether, the audiobook merits 9 stars out of 10. I am grateful to Audible for making it available as a 'Plus' selection.. because it would rate a Credit for any fan of Lucy (or even mid-20th century celebrities in General).
