Publisher's Summary
New York Times Best Seller
This official Minecraft novel is an action-packed thriller! When a new virtual-reality version of the game brings her dreams - and doubts - to life, one player must face her fears.
Bianca has never been good at following the plan. She's more of an act-now, deal-with-the-consequences-later kind of person. But consequences can't be put off forever, as Bianca learns when she and her best friend, Lonnie, are in a terrible car crash. Waking up in the hospital, almost paralyzed by her injuries, Bianca is faced with questions she's not equipped to answer. She chooses instead to try a new virtual-reality version of Minecraft that responds to her every wish, giving her control over a world at the very moment she thought she'd lost it. As she explores this new realm, she encounters a mute, glitching avatar she believes to be Lonnie.
Bianca teams up with Esme and Anton, two kids who are also playing on the hospital server, to save her friend. But the road to recovery isn't without its own dangers. The kids are swarmed by mobs seemingly generated by their fears and insecurities, and now Bianca must deal with the uncertainties that have been plaguing her: Is Lonnie really in the game? And can Bianca help him return to reality?

Completely different story line.
My kid was very disappointed. He thought he would be able to find out what happened after the first book ended.

NOT FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN
The first few chapters at least are a very very detailed recount of a car crash and hospital experience. My son had crying nightmares that night. We listened to the first chapter in full hoping it would change but it didn't. We kept skipping forward in the following chapters and we got to chapter 5 and they were still talking about the car accident/hospital experience, it was very dark, we gave up. I was so mad. Our kids are 7 and 9. At first, they were upset the book barely talked about Minecraft, except of course when she waves a phone with it on her screen which causes the accident that the book seems focused on. Then they got really quiet that night. My oldest woke up crying from his dream, which hasn't happened before. The next day there were a lot of really uncomfortable conversations as they were still obviously processing. I can see that this book might be interesting for someone older, it was quite well-read and well-written. But it's definitely not E for everyone.

My son’s feedback is that it’s ok but...
My son was quite upset that this book wasn’t a continuation of the first book in the series. He was also annoyed by all the things that were against the rules of minecraft that the characters were doing.
Normally he is over the moon for any minecraft tangential related things so a muted response speaks much longer than if he was just complaining about it all.

Sad book
I didn’t like the end when she thought her friend was dead. I would recommend this to a adult.
