Investigative journalist and anthropologist Scott Carney takes up the challenge to find out: Can we hack our bodies and use the environment to stimulate our inner biology?

Story
This reissue of Thomas Sowell’s classic study of decision making, which includes a preface by the author, updates his seminal work in the context of The Vision of the Anointed. Sowell, one of America’s most celebrated public intellectuals, describes in concrete detail how knowledge is shared and disseminated throughout modern society. He warns that society suffers from an ever-widening gap between firsthand knowledge and decision making—a gap that threatens not only our economic and political efficiency but our very freedom.

What’s the most pressure you’ve ever been under? How did you react? What helped? What didn’t? Over the past five years, Dane Jensen has asked these questions of thousands of high performers - from Olympic gold medalists to Navy SEALs, politicians, executives, and busy parents. What has emerged from these conversations is that while everyone’s experiences under pressure are unique, pressure follows patterns and develops in predictable ways. If we can recognize the patterns, we can improve our ability to sidestep the biological traps that can sabotage us....

Spectacular Read for High Performers
- By Yau Law Firm on 2021-12-02
Written by: Dane Jensen
Publisher's Summary
There is a new revolution happening in sports as more and more athletes are basing their success on this game-changing combination: health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset. Unfortunately, the evidence-based techniques that the expert PhDs, academic institutions, and professional performance staffs follow can be in stark contrast to what many athletes actually practice. When combined with the noise of social media, old-school traditions, and bro-science, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.
Peak is a groundbreaking book exploring the fundamentals of high performance (not the fads), the importance of consistency (not extreme effort), and the value of patience (not rapid transformation). Dr. Marc Bubbs makes deep science easy-to-understand, and with information from leading experts who are influencing the top performers in sports on how to achieve world-class success, he lays out the record-breaking feats of athleticism, and strategies that are rooted in this personalized approach. Dr. Bubbs expertly brings together the worlds of health, nutrition, and exercise, and synthesizes the salient science into actionable guidance. Regardless if you’re trying to improve your physique, propel your endurance, or improve your team’s record, looking at performance through this lens is absolutely critical for lasting success.

90% great, 10% mixed
Mostly a fantastic book, though once in a while the evidence that is early/equivocal/not beneficial overall (based on current systemic reviews and other experts in the field, eg. the benefits of uncommonly high vitamin D levels) is given similar emphasis to that which is actually solid; Marc Bubbs qualifies this most of the time, but not always. That being said, 90% of the content was great, consistent with best evidence, and well-delivered.

Otherwise if your new to working out or some sports science there is probably better option's out there to learn from first... Great book

Very helpful!!
Great insights on bettering myself to reach my fitness goals, but also provides amazing insights on coaching. Although stating references sound dry, I do appreciate when authors outline their sources and really layout the science behind their points. Although it isn’t the most entertaining when that happens, but that’s the trade off I suppose.

This audiobook was educational and the narrator read it well. I think they added the perfect amount of evidence-based information, without so many specific details that it would become hard to follow. Good read for anyone interested in health and training.
