Story
Gripping and often poetic, Alone Against the North is a classic adventure story of single-minded obsession, physical hardship, and the restless sense of wonder that every explorer has in common. What Shoalts discovered as he paddled downriver was a series of unmapped waterfalls that could easily have killed him. Just as astonishing was the media reaction when he got back to civilization. He was feted by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and congratulated by the Governor General. People were enthralled by Shoalts’s proof that the world is bigger than we think.

Best book I've read on the subject so far
I've read a lot of survival books and so far this is the best one. Many of the others are either too short, too vague, or read like bullet point lists. This book combines entertainment, quality, and quantity of information. He makes it accessible, without turning it into a doomsday story. Lessons learned within or useful in everyday life, and the general mindset is very positive and has a goal for continuous improvement.

First 30 minutes alone could change your life
Aside from the purpose of this book on survival, what you can learn in it is certainly helpful in any situation throughout life. This is good enough of a reason to purchase this book.
