Publisher's Summary

This program is read by Hugo Award-winning author Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Murderbot meets Redshirts in a delightfully humorous tale of robotic murder from the Hugo-nominated author of Elder Race and Children of Time.

To fix the world they must first break it, further.

Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service.

When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away.

Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Sometimes all it takes is a nudge to overcome the limits of your programming.

a review by an Authority Level 9

I really loved this audiobook. It had some sad moments, funny moments, and some funny sad moments (as a canadian, is that what british humor is?) It was a nice adventure and I enjoyed the whole ride. The narration by the author was great. Tchaikovsky has a diverse character voice portfolio. The low reviews should not be considered as they were written by defective units that are awaiting data compression.

My least favorite of is book so far.

Spoiler free

I would recommend any of his other book over this one.
It's not terrible, but not great either.
Characters are fine.
The voice actor has great delivery.
The logic of the world somewhat hold itself but there's to many deus ex machina for my taste.
The plot armor is very heavy and I think that's why I didn't like it as much.

Hilarious!

In a genre full of sapient robots, this book instantly stands out. The dissonance from clashing human-dictated policies had me laughing out loud. And although I had my doubts that the book would adequately sum up all relevant threads, it did so with gusto by the end. I definitely recommend it!

Funnily sad…

Really enjoyed this well crafted, light, heavy, sad, funny audiobook. Performed very well, very engaging.

This author is incredibly clever

Whether it is intended or not, this book has some incredibly clever metaphors and a brilliant look at society. The dialogue between the two main characters is quite humorous.

Catch-22.0 mundane slapstick

Chapter 10….
Robot still dealing with pedantic coding creating semantic challenges.
Rinse.
Repeat. Again. And again.
Adrian. What happened?!?
