Story
Health and wellness campaigns preach avoidance of unhealthy foods, sedentary lifestyles, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol, but rarely preach avoidance of unhealthy, difficult, or toxic people. Yet the health benefits of removing toxic people from your life may have far greater benefits to both physical and psychological health. We need to learn to be better gatekeepers for our minds, bodies, and souls. Narcissism, entitlement, and incivility have become the new world order, and we are all in trouble. They are not only normalized but also increasingly incentivized.

Story
It’s not always easy to tell when you’re dealing with a narcissist. One day they draw you in with their confidence and charisma, the next they gaslight you, wreck your self-confidence, and leave you wondering, What could I have done differently? As Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It's Not You, the answer is: absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm, you first have to accept that you are not to blame.

Story
Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

What if you could stop eating, stop working at a bad job, stop a bad relationship - stop anything when you have had enough? Understanding WHY you eat can lead to real and lasting change - both in weight loss and all other areas of life. In You Are Why You Eat food becomes a digestible metaphor. Most of us are unable to walk away - from a plate of food or a bad situation. But instead of staying and trying to please others all the time, what would happen if you listened to your inner voice?

When you said, “I do”, you entered marriage with high hopes, dreaming it would be supremely happy. You never intended for it to be miserable. Millions of couples are struggling in desperate marriages. But the story doesn’t have to end there. Dr. Gary Chapman writes, “I believe that in every troubled marriage, one or both partners can take positive steps that have the potential for changing the emotional climate in their marriage.”

Publisher's Summary
Do you feel like you are talking and talking, and your partner is never listening?
Do you feel like you keep saying the same thing over and over again?
Does your partner make promises, only to break or betray your trust repeatedly?
Is your partner controlling or just plain mean?
Have you read every relationship book out there, practiced your communication skills, and still feel unheard or neglected?
Are you done with second chances?
Should you stay or should you go?
We live in a world of romance and rescue - where everyone believes love will conquer all, and the more we put up with, the more loving we are being. It doesn't work that way. Sometimes we choose mean people, and before long we are in so deep, we don't know whether we are coming or going. One day you want to fight harder, and the next day you are ready to pack it in, and the next day you want to fight harder.
Should I Stay or Should I Go? is a survival manual, a guidebook, and a shot of reality. Some people will never change, and kissing frogs is the stuff of fairy tales, not real life. The Beast never turns out to be a nice guy (or gal). This is a book that breaks down what mean people do to us, how they do it, and what we can do to survive.

Very thorough.. very helpful!
I had to listen yo this in stints because there is so much helpful info. Ramani was very thorough with her info and it is very evident it took 3 years to finish. I highly recommend this to everyone but especially those who are with someone in a narcissitic relationship. Gives lots of prospective and helps you to see there is more than enough right about you. You are more than enough. Love this book.

helpful and validating
Dr Ramani is an excellent narrator. I got that empty feeling when I finished the book because I loved hearing her read to me(but she has other books, so I'm listening to them now).
anyway, as an empathic/pushover/easygoing/caregiver type person, I seem to collect relationships of many types that become heartbreaking romantically, and uncomfortable overall. I even had trouble discerning certain toxic behaviors because I truly would find justifications for these people in my life. This book helped me see some reoccurring patterns in my life, amd gave me tools to better identify these behaviors from now on. additionally, it gives advice on how to manage expectations and interactions with individuals who have narcissistic tendencies. I might need to listen every few months to keep sharp.

Awesome as always!
This (audio)book is not merely about NPD. If you believe may be in a toxic relationship with a "narcissist" (not necessarily a pwNPD) this book is definitely for you. It's extremely validating and a guiding light with Dr. Ramani D's own soothing voice as narrator. I purchased her other book ("Don't you know who I am?") first and really enjoyed it. This one focuses more on intimate relationships. In my opinion everyone should read it and pass on the message to their children. We don't want our children to make the mistake of becoming involved with a "narcissist".

Awesome
This book is awesome I realize for quite awhile now that my husband wasn’t going to change but yet I kept going back to talk hoping the next talk would be different. This book set me straight it’s not going to change. I see so much narcissistic traits she mention in my husband. My husband is not controlling or abusive nor does he have any money but he lack empathy he doesn’t care he’s emotionally empty has no insight. He doesn’t like to be confronted. He is selfish never apologize, take no responsibility and blame me and a lot more so I believe he is a narcissistic person. I want to go but have fear of being alone since I’m nearing 60yrs. I will read this book again to help straighten me.

Excellent book
Dr Ramani is wonderful and listening to her talk about narcissism and narcissistic abuse comforted me. Comforted me in the sense that I am not alone. Every second of the book is intriguing and enlightening about narcissistic abuse and how to survive. The question always remains if "Should I stay or should I go?" whenever dealing with narcissists because they always leave you confused as to what to feel about them. If you're suffering from narcissistic abuse then this book is for you! Read it you won't regret it!

Excellent in every way! A must read!
Dr Ramani is a gifted speaker and writer! I’m so grateful for her work! In the past, I have been a victim of narcissistic abuse and through the teaching of Dr Ramani, I have found a path forward into healing and future possibilities of never being taken in by another narcissist. As well, the online healing program provided by Dr Ramani is by far more effective than what the majority of counsellors have available today. Most are just not equipped and knowledgeable enough to tackle the complexities of this personality disorder. The narcissistic personality is an absolute danger and pernicious in every way. Thank you Dr Ramani for your work and for making your healing program so accessible and affordable! You have such a brave, kind and generous heart - I’ll forever be grateful to you!
