Suite française réunit les deux premiers romans d'une série qu'Irène Némirovsky, célèbre depuis David Golder, publié en 1929, souhaitait écrire sur la guerre : Tempête en juin et Dolce. Mais, en juillet 1942, elle est arrêtée par les Nazis puis disparait à Auschwitz.

Tempête en juin décrit par le menu l'Exode, et ce traumatisme qui arracha le masque social de bien des gens, dévoilant veulerie ou courage, égoïsme ou générosité. Dans Dolce, l'auteur dissèque le calme apparent régnant dans la petite ville de Bussy, l'ambigüité des liens qui lient sa population et les occupants, puis les tensions nées des premières actions de la Résistance.

Ces deux romans ne seront publiés qu'en 2004, sous le titre Suite française. Ouvrage pour lequel Irène Némirovsky obtiendra le Prix Renaudot à titre posthume.

Très bon livre.
