Publisher's Summary

Book Four of The Sword of Truth, the series first begun in Wizard's First Rule, returns listeners to the world of Richard Cypher, a simple woods guide who never dreamed he would be named the Seeker of Truth and become caught up in magic, war, and dangers so extraordinary that the fate of his entire world would hang on his actions and decisions.

The dangerous, fanatical Imperial Order, under the leadership of the power-mad Emperor Jagang and his multitude of demonic underlings, unleashes a deadly plague. To find a cure, Richard Cypher and his beloved Kahlan Amnell must seek out the legendary Temple of the Winds, a fortress of evil sealed away for 3,000 years. But the path of the Seeker of Truth is never an easy one - even if he can reach the Temple at all, there is no guarantee he'll ever return.

Performance may be disturbing

Good story, but I’m getting tired of every book in series having a different narrator. Out of 4 narrators so far this was not the worst, but that fact that you have to get used to him pronouncing one of the main characters names so wrong is maddening. Could he not have done even a little research, listening to even 5 mins of one of the first 3 books would have taught him how to pronounce the name.

Butchered the names of the characters.

If you insist on switching narrators so often in a single series, put in some effort for continuity in pronunciation of the names.

Dick Hill saved it with his amazing performance. His voices are very well done.

Sadly distracting

Unfortunately the mispronunciation of Kahlens name in comparison with each of the other readers is so distracting I mostly let this one just play in the background. it's too sad considering how great the rest of the narrating is.

Is the pronunciation wrong?

When I first read the books, in my head, I pronounced Kahlan's name KAH-len. When I listened to the first audiobook and watched the show, it was pronounced KAY-lan....its funny how we all interpret it differently. But I also agree that there should be consistency between readers in a series. I really enjoyed the different voices he read.

The narration was like listening to a movie

First thing, the name Kahlan being pronounced as "Collin" took me out a bit. After the first chapter, this was no long an issue for me at all. The performance of this book in particular, was easily one of the best narrations I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I was able to envision the story being told from Chapter 2, all the way to the end. Bravo, good sir!

Reading?

The reading was good. Dick Hill put in an admirable effort giving each character a voice to be heard. but like so many other people saying a characters name wrong pulls you out of the immersion every time it happens.

stop changing voice actors

book 1's voice actor was amazing. Book 3's was dead and robotic. this one seems like he's intentionally butchering ALL the character's names. Did he ever bother listen to the other books before voicing this one? Get it together, the lack of consistency between voice actors is infuriating.

Another new narrator

This series goes through narrators like toilet paper. Honestly this guy was my favourite so far except that he couldn’t pronounce names. The story was fine though the betrayal was a bit contrived for my taste. Great series, very engaging just teach your narrators to pronounce key words and all will be well.
