Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
TOP GUN instructor Colt Bancroft has just catapulted off the USS Abraham Lincoln, his F-35C Joint Strike Fighter trailing blue and yellow flame as he climbs into the night sky off the California coast. When he is sent to investigate a series of mysterious lights floating dangerously close to his aircraft carrier, disaster strikes. His jet becomes unresponsive as it rolls inverted and enters a nosedive aimed right at the aircraft carrier’s unsuspecting escort cruiser… What follows is a tale of heroism and betrayal, spycraft and suspense, and aerial combat against an unexpected adversary.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Publisher's Summary
Number One National Best Seller
The number one best-selling Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is back with an exceptional Cold War thriller from the dark heart of the Space Race.
“An exciting journey to an alternate past.” (Andy Weir, author of The Martian)
“Nail-biting.” (James Cameron, writer and director of Avatar and Titanic)
“Not to be missed.” (Frederick Forsyth, author of The Day of the Jackal)
“Explosive.” (Gregg Hurwitz, author of Orphan X)
“Exciting, authentic.” (Linwood Barclay, author of Find You First)
1973. A final, top-secret mission to the Moon. Three astronauts in a tiny module, a quarter of a million miles from home. A quarter of a million miles from help.
As Russian and American crews sprint for a secret bounty hidden away on the lunar surface, old rivalries blossom and the political stakes are stretched to breaking point back on Earth. Houston flight controller Kazimieras "Kaz" Zemeckis must do all he can to keep the NASA crew together, while staying one step ahead of his Soviet rivals. But not everyone on board Apollo 18 is quite who they appear to be.
Full of the fascinating technical detail that fans of The Martian loved, and reminiscent of the thrilling claustrophobia, twists and tension of The Hunt for Red October, The Apollo Murders puts you right there in the moment. Experience the fierce G-forces of launch, the frozen loneliness of Space and the fear of holding on to the outside of a spacecraft orbiting the Earth at 17,000 miles per hour, as told by a former Commander of the International Space Station who has done all of those things in real life.
Strap in and count down for the ride of a lifetime.
What the critics say
#1 National Bestseller
One of Indigo's Best Books of the Year 2021
"A nail-biting Cold War thriller set against a desperate Apollo mission that never really happened...or did it? It’s a very rare book that combines so many things I love, from taut suspense and highly realistic action, to the golden age of space exploration. I couldn't put it down.” (James Cameron, writer and director of Avatar and Titanic)
“An explosive thriller from a writer who has actually been to space and back.... Strap in for the ride.” (Gregg Hurwitz, New York Times best-selling author of the Orphan X novels)
“There’s maybe one person on Earth with the writing chops and the expertise to write a to-the-moon thriller this exciting, this authentic. Chris Hadfield is that guy.” (Linwood Barclay, New York Times best-selling author of Find You First)

Captivating
This audio book greatly relieved the tedium of Covid.
My wife and I listened to this book at mealtimes over a period pf a month. It was hard to ration our listening time but we were both fascinated and tried to guess the next development in the story, sometimes successfully. The amount of technical detail about what is involved in a successful moon shot was extremely interesting and reaffirmed our awe at how brave all cosmonauts are. To that bravery for Chris Hadfield we can now add the extra accomplishment of great skill in writing an exciting, captivating book!
Great read er listen!!

A Great Story
I gave a print copy of this book to my wife for her birthday. I read it after she finished it. We both raced through it and decided to get the audiobook and enjoy it at a more leisurely pace. The story is totally believable, the characters feel real. Everything that a spy novel fan or space travel geek wants in a story is there. The narrator has a Tom Hanks like voice, so Apollo 13 comes to mind, a nice bonus.
Highly recommend. Enjoy!!

Chris Hadfield nails it.
I was prepared to accept a mediocre story from my favourite astronaut (yes, people have favourite astronauts) and was delighted to discover a fabulous, technically accurate and suspenseful space thriller. So much so that I rationed my listening (the narrator, Ray Porter, is marvellous) so as to stretch the pleasure out.
Well done, Hadfield. I look forward to seeing it as a movie. And write another one. With a Canadian character or two.
