Story
Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago. Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer.

Publisher's Summary
Nearly three million copies of Ruth Ware’s books sold worldwide.
The highly anticipated fourth novel from Ruth Ware, the Globe and Mail and New York Times best-selling author of the In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, and The Lying Game.
Harriet Westaway - better known as Hal - makes ends meet as a tarot reader, but she doesn’t believe in the power of her trade. On a day that begins like any other, she receives a mysterious and unexpected letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but she also knows that she can use her cold-reading skills to potentially claim the money.
Hal attends the funeral of the deceased and meets the family...but it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and that the inheritance is at the center of it.
Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware’s signature suspenseful style, this is a pause-resisting thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

Excellent! Definitely worth a second listen!
This book is fantastic! It's my first book by Ruth Ware and also my first by narrator Imogen Church and I highly impressed by both. Personally I find the most difficult part of choosing an audio book is the narrator. More often than not I can't stand listening to many of them, but Imogen Church was a delight! She doesn't rush, she does amazing voices so you always know who is speaking and she brings an emotion and truth to the reading making you feel like you are really there. It's been a while since I was so disappointed to have the book be over! I found myself wishing it would continue for several more hours.
The author did a wonderful job of creating believable, real characters. I grew very attached to quite a few of them, another reason I was sad for it to be over. The story was very intriguing and kept me guessing. I had several theories as to how it would all turn out in the end, but those kept changing as I read along.
Normally I only listen to audio books on my way to and from work each day, but this one was so wonderful I found myself listening at home while making dinner or folding laundry and even listened at work during breaks because I couldn't wait for more! I actually think I will listen to this one again soon because I enjoyed it so much and would like to see what extra details I can pull from it a second time around.
I highly recommend it!

It’s not predictable, but...
If I never hear the words “trepidation” or “niggling” ever again it will be too soon. I really did enjoy the story and narration but I could feel the approach of the word trepidation every time it came up after the the third use. That, in total, was the only predictable part of the story. I did not expect the end, and I enjoyed the journey.

Started off slow but then got interesting
At first I was about to stop listening as it was a slow start too descriptive, let's dive into the plot alread. At about chapter 19, it picked up which in my opinion a lot could have been cut out in the first 19, chapter, too many details to keep track of. Once the book picked up, it got interesting. However, I did find myself going back to keep track of the details so I understood the passage and the significance. Overall, good listen, once the story took off.
