Story
Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, she spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, an Oxford garden shed in which her father and a team of dedicated lexicographers are collecting words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Young Esme’s place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day a slip of paper containing the word bondmaid flutters beneath the table. She rescues the slip and, learning that the word means “slave girl,” begins to collect other words discarded or neglected by the dictionary men.

Story
Xanthe has always had an affinity with some of the antiques she finds. When she touches them, she can sense something of the past they come from and the stories they hold. When she has an intense connection to a beautiful silver chatelaine, she has to know more. It is while she’s examining the chatelaine that she’s transported back to the 17th century, where it has its origins. She discovers there is an injustice in its history. The spirit that inhabits her new home confronts her and charges her with saving her daughter’s life, threatening to take Flora’s if she fails.

Meet the Keeper of Lost Things....
Once a celebrated author of short stories now in his twilight years, Anthony Peardew has spent half his life collecting lost objects, trying to atone for a promise broken many years before.
Realising he is running out of time, he leaves his house and all its lost treasures to his assistant Laura, the one person he can trust to fulfil his legacy and reunite the thousands of objects with their rightful owners.
But the final wishes of the Keeper of Lost Things have unforeseen repercussions which trigger a most serendipitous series of encounters....
And if you loved The Keeper of Lost Things, don't miss Ruth Hogan's second novel The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes, which is out now.
What the critics say

"The first book I read in 2017 - and if another as good comes along in the next 12 months, I'll eat my special gold reviewing spectacles." (Daily Mail)
"Captures perfectly and heartbreakingly the small moments on which a life can turn." (Kirsty Wark, author of The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle.)

Cute easy story to listen to
I liked this story as it wasn't heavy. It was a nice easy listen.
I found that I didn't care as much about the secondary story lines however and that at times the focus of this book wavered. The lost things actually play a very small role and then they also throw in a ghost and psychic visions....it is a lot
But overall was an enjoyable listen.

Adored this book!
I adored this book. The characters were very interesting in a kind of normal way most people are. It kind of reminded me of a Mauve Binchey story which I loved very much! Their stories were woven together beautifully. The narrators were brilliant, they added such life to the characters, I truly didn’t want the story to end!

I loved this story! #Audible1
This book was quirky, fun and interesting. I wish I could read the stories in the book referenced in the story. I love the explanation of where lost things originated and how they all tied together in the end. #Audible1

sweet story
I found this book a bit hard to follow at first and a bit slow but as the characters were developed my enjoyment did as well. My favorite character is Sunshine as she was portrayed and read as a bright and sensitive girl. Well done!
