Publisher's Summary

Some doors are locked for a reason....

While 11-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.

Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not a killer like her father. The police can't pin anything on her.

As long as they don't look in her basement.

Meh.

Storyline was interesting enough with a couple decent twists, but the main character’s thoughts and actions became extremely repetitive and very annoying, almost to the point of just shutting off the audiobook. The narration for this audiobook was quite terrible. Glad it was included in membership so I didn’t have to use a credit.

Twisty but painfully narrated

As always, McFadden delivers a twisty story. However, her writing style leaves much to be desired. If she ups her writing, she would be in a league of her own. The narration of this book was painful and frustrating. Will not listen to anything else by this narrator.

The narrator dragged score down.

If I could have given this narrator a zero I would have. I've returned books before because I didn't enjoy the sound of the voice reading to me.

In this case it's not only the tone which sounds unbelievably robotic and nasal at the same time, but even the pace and manner in which she reads as well as the choices she makes performance wise.

The whole thing is a disaster, I honestly don't know how she got into this line of work - by WHO'S recommendation!?!!??

Narrator was not my cup of tea

Struggled to get through this. I really disliked the narrator and could not put her narration aside. Story was okay.

I couldn’t make it through this book due to the narrators voice, disappointing as I love the author

Decent listen, not as great as other books of McFadden’s

The narrator wasn’t great - almost had a whiny tone, irritating often, especially when attempting to change voices. Affected the experience greatly.

Enjoyed the flashbacks from present day to childhood.
The copy cat killer was VERY unrealistic

Narrator makes me want to scratch my eyes out

I literally want to jump thru my earbuds, and offer the narrator a few Valium’s - she sounds so strung out and high pitched and her terrible impersonation of male characters makes me want to turn the book off. I listened anyway as I was bored. But I wish the writer would choose someone else to tell her story. This is the second novel I’ve listened to by her and I thought the first one was an anxious freak character not the narrator, but clearly I was wrong.

had to DNF

I dnf this because I didn't enjoy the narrorator at all. the speed was to much, and some of the ways she spoke made the story hard to listen to. I might pick this up on Kindle or something but the audio was not for me.

The narration is horrible

I will probably look for this to read myself. I tried to deal with the horrible narration but 10 mins in I realized I just can't do it. Disappointing because I was really looking forward to this book as the last two from this author had amazing narration. Giving the story and overall a good rating because I'm sure the book itself is great. Can't stand the narrator though! horrible

Enjoyed the story but…

I enjoyed the story—thought the ending was going to be predictable, but nope! However, the narration is incredibly bad.
