Story
Dr. Sam Anderson is one of the most celebrated scientists in history. Ten years ago, he invented a device that changed the world forever. Now his life is about to be ripped apart—and his own creation may be to blame. One fateful morning, Sam discovers that his girlfriend has been murdered and that his daughter is accused of the crime. Sam believes she's innocent, but he can't prove it. There's only one thing he can do to save his daughter: confess to the crime. And so he does. But in the future, murderers aren't sent to prison. They're sent to the past.

Story
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Story
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Publisher's Summary
The ice is coming. It was the last thing we expected, but the world is freezing. A new ice age has dawned and humanity has been forced to confront its own extinction. Billions have fled the glaciers, crowding out the world’s last habitable zones. They can run from the ice, but they can’t escape human nature: a cataclysmic war is coming.
In orbit, a group of scientists are running the Winter Experiments, a last-ditch attempt to understand why the planet is cooling. None of the climate models they build make sense. But then they discover an anomaly, an unexplained variation in solar radiation...and something else. Close to the burning edge of the sun, they catch a fleeting glimpse of something that shouldn’t be there....
Suddenly humanity must face the possibility it is not alone in the universe. And the terrifying possibility that whatever is out there may be trying to exterminate us.

Lacked detail
A good story line, however, I felt it should have been directed towards the younger teen reader. Overall somewhat simplistic.

A decent story to pass the time
it was enjoyable enough, I found the character development a bit predictable and the author played on a lot of cliches. I was annoyed with the multiple occurrences of ominous foreshadowing blatantly used for shocking revelations later in the story. I had a hard time developing any strong feelings one way or the other for any of the characters. The narration was acceptable but not great and in a book that includes characters from several different countries you're narrator should be good with accents, these two aren't awful, but not great either. contrary to all of this I did enjoy it and will check out the next one.

A great space romp
I haven't had this much fun with a space opera since I first boarded the good ship USS Enterprise.
Author AG Riddle lives up to his name, keeping us guessing and plausibly holding back key parts of the MC's past.
Other than one scientific plot hole that would be a spoiler to reveal, Riddle adds enough hard science - effects of gravity on the body, power/space limitations, to name a few - this is a superbly constructed and written novel.
I'm up for the sequel

Not overly original
Well written but too similar to the Formic Wars by Orson Scott Card but without some important details. I did care about the characters but the story skipped too many details

Average, but not in a bad way.
The storyline is a little tread worn, with fragments from here and there interwoven but, while entertaining enough, it’s no treasured patchwork quilt.
I liked the two person, present tense storyline but the two characters came together right at the start and the two strands didn’t really separate after that. There were too many clues for chunks of the story and so nothing really was a surprise and some of the human nature elements were not super believable. All that being said, I wanted to finish it and I did. Not bad, not great
