Publisher's Summary
Yorkshire is 'a continent unto itself', a region where mountain, plain, coast, downs, fen and heath lie close. By weaving history, family stories, travelogue and ecology, Richard Morris reveals how Yorkshire took shape as a landscape and in literature, legend and popular regard. The result is a fascinating and wide-ranging meditation on Yorkshire and Yorkshireness, told through the prism of the region's most extraordinary people and places.

Definitely different
A history and geography of Yorkshire that reads a like a travel guide through both space and time. I think that was the author's intent and it works well sometimes, and sometimes not so well. The text is kind of random, often meanders, although many chapters stay true to a central theme, however loosely. When it does adhere to a theme, it can be quite effective.
There is a lot of information in this work, and it does impart a reasonable introduction to the county.
The reader is pretty good; however, he does not flow with the text as well as I would like. This book already has some flow issues and his meter and pauses (or lack thereof) do not help. The recording has a pretty sharp 'S' sound throughout. This tends to irritate me.
