Story
There is no bigger public health story now than the collapse in youth mental health. The numbers are terrifying and dominate our headlines. There has been much debate over how we got here, and what to do next, and bestselling author and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt is at the white-hot center of that discourse. Haidt has spent his career speaking wisdom and truth into the most difficult landscapes—communities polarized by politics and religion, campuses battling culture wars, and now the perfect storm contributing to a public health emergency for Gen Z.

With an institution long plagued by antiquated ideas around race, class and money, the monarchy and those who prop it up are now exposed and at odds with a rapidly modernizing world.

Story
Digging deep into her strengths, her failures and her losses, Jann Arden brings us an inspiring account of how she has surprised herself, in her fifties, by at last becoming completely her own person. Like many women, it took Jann a long time to realize that trying to be pleasing and likeable and beautiful in the eyes of others was a loser's game. Letting it rip, and damning the consequences, is not only liberating, it's a hell of a lot of fun: "Being the age I am—that so many women are—is just the best time of my life."

Publisher's Summary
INSTANT #1 TORONTO STAR and GLOBE AND MAIL BESTSELLER
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau invites listeners on a deeply personal journey toward self-knowledge, acceptance, and empowerment, drawing on the expertise of top psychologists, psychiatrists, scientists, and thought leaders.
As a passionate advocate for mental health, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau believes that in order to know and accept ourselves fully, we need to understand why we think and feel the way we do, and recognize the experiences, attitudes, and patterns that may be holding us back. And yet, all of us are capable of growth and positive change, if we're willing to stay open and curious throughout our lives.
In Closer Together, Sophie shares moments from her own journey: from her childhood, through her struggles with an eating disorder in her teens and early adulthood; from a career as a speaker and television host to de facto "first lady" and mother of three. Above all, Sophie is a warm and empathetic connector, and her book is enriched by exclusive interviews with experts such as Gabor Maté, Liz Plank, Terrence Real, Catherine Price, Harville Hendrix, and Helen LaKelly Hunt—to name just a few—as she delves into the science behind brain health and our unique emotional signatures. She explores the questions that matter the most for our individual and collective growth, and in how we interact with others:
- How does the way we were raised contribute to our sense of self?
- How can we better prepare ourselves to deal with big emotions?
- What do we need from our relationships, and what can we contribute to them?
- What role do physical activity and creative pursuits play in mental health?
- How can we let go of what doesn’t serve us and nurture what does?
Drawing on her own mindfulness and yoga practices, Sophie also offers journalling prompts and other tools that will guide listeners as they explore these questions in their own lives. In creating a space for openness, playfulness, and creativity, Sophie inspires us to see that there are more things that bring us together than separate us, allowing us to stand in the light of our true potential.
What the critics say
"In this candid and enlightening book, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau offers an intrepid exploration into achieving a life filled with purpose, meaning, and a sense of wonder. Closer Together makes a heartfelt case for the importance of connection for our well-being: as individuals, as parents and mentors, and as members of society."—Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton
"In Closer Together Sophie Grégoire Trudeau toggles effortlessly between the personal and the universal, from engaging anecdote to lucidly presented science. The result is a charming and highly readable book that casts fresh light on human development and mental health even as it invites insightful and playful self-reflection."—Gabor Maté, M.D., author of The Myth of Normal
"Sophie's understanding of how the mind and body work together is deep, intuitive and reflective of her remarkably curious nature. She delves into the complexities of our emotional, psychological and social well-being. The book is filled with her grace and authenticity—infusing every page with insights, vulnerability and profound wisdom. Simply put, it is a must-read."—Gabrielle Bernstein, #1 NYT bestselling author of Happy Days

A conversation about Wellness
Liked: Her candour without oversharing. She tells us about the challenges of dealing with an eating disorder, infertility, her loneliness as an only child, her anxieties.
LOVED: It was not a TELL ALL book about JT or her time as Canada’s First Lady (unpaid)

A bit disappointed
As arrogant as I may sound, I'm expecting a memoir but only found myself listening to a book about self-help/parenting. It's well written/narrated, but does not let me know more about Sophie Trudeau
