Publisher's Summary

For centuries Dethan has been trapped in a fiery inferno for defying the gods and snatching the power of immortality. Condemned to have his battle-hardened body licked by flames only to regenerate and be consumed all over again, Dethan has lost all hope--until the goddess of conflict appears. She will release him from torment--if he'll use his power and strength as a warrior to raise an army and defeat a fierce enemy faction of gods. Free to live as a man once again, Dethan meets Selinda, heir to the throne of Hexis, and his thoughts quickly turn from the conquest of cities to the conquest of this headstrong beauty.

Betrothed to a cruel, calculating power monger, Selinda needs a champion, and so Dethan enters into another bargain: If she will share her bed--and her body--with him, Dethan will save her city from destructive forces within and without. As the lovers ignite a searing passion, Dethan will risk all, even the wrath of the goddess of conflict, for a chance to make Selinda his forever.

Contains mature themes.

it was okay

I will start off by saying that I am a very big fan of Jacqueline Frank's nightwalker series. I commute quite far to work and I find that I listen to the nightwalker series starting from Jacob all the way through to Forged at least once every year. I was looking for something new and figured because I like the Nightwalkers and the Nightwalker worlds so much that I would like anything that she wrote. I now know better, this book is okay for a historical romance, but it reminds me more of a harlequin romance. one of my favorite things about the world of the Nightwalkers is how good a job the author did at the world building and the character building. I found these characters to be more flat and the world to not be very interesting. I may be a little bit biased because historical romance is not my favorite genre and although this one had a bit of talk of magic and gods and mages, it really had no depth to it. And so that's why as the title of this review says this book was okay, it's getting three stars because it was just an okay book and just an okay story. I can say that I will not be using my audible credits to buy the other stories in this series. and the truth is that I found the two main characters a little on the annoying side, I won't give any spoilers to say why, but if you get this book you'll see why.
