Struggling artist Avery Ross is barely scraping by. Bartending at a trendy New York City restaurant for an overbearing boss and two weeks away from losing her apartment to a condo developer, she's desperate for a break. So when she's offered a temporary housesitting job, she takes it.

Living at one of the poshest addresses in Manhattan is like entering a new world - one that catapults her into the orbit of billionaire Dominic Baine, the darkly handsome, arrogantly alpha resident of the building's penthouse. What begins as a powerful attraction soon explodes into a white-hot passion neither can deny.

Yet as scorching as their need for each other is, Avery doesn't expect Nick's interest in her to last. Nor does she dare to dream that the desire she feels for this scarred, emotionally remote man could deepen into something real. For Avery has secrets of her own - and a past that could destroy her, and shatter everything she and Nick share.

Contains mature themes.

The characters were incredibly unlikable and all issues in the story were super easy to fix if they just had one adult conversation.

Meh

I liked it but the whole story hinged on her lying and keeping secrets in fear he'd find out. he finds out. forgives her and then she lies again? lol frustrating. I feel she could have done something different with the plot.

just alright

This is the kind of romance novel that gives the genre a bad name. A third of the book is devoted to the heroine's secret and why she believes she has to lie ad nauseam. It is hard to imagine a book with more unnecessary repetition. The fact that the book ends ends on a cliffhanger is ludicrous since a good editor could have cut through the forest of angst and saved the reader a lot of eye rolling. Steamy scenes are fine, but happen so frequently that there is little time for plot or character development. The dialogue is mostly trite. Ironically the most interest character is the heroine's friend.
