About this listen

What do a mercenary and a mortician have in common?

Dead. Freaking. Bodies.

Callum Walker kills people for a living. Although he doesn't get a say in who his boss puts on his list, he likes to hunt people who hurt children in his spare time. After a misunderstanding that leads Callum to believe Ryan Fairview—a local funeral director—is responsible for hurting one of the neighbourhood children, he finds his next target.

However, Ryan isn't like other morticians. He can see dead people. So, when Callum breaks into Fairview Funerals ready to kill him, Ryan is shocked to find that his would-be murderer is haunted by all the people he's killed.

Ryan might be just the man to help Cal get rid of his little ghost problem. The only problem is, these two are polar opposites, and Ryan can't seem to get over the small issue of home invasion and attempted homicide.

Will Cal win over the stubborn and neurotic mortician? Or will Ryan refuse to be swayed by the impulsive yet charming mercenary?

The Mercenary and the Mortician is a dark paranormal MM romance. It is an interconnected standalone in the Silent Hollow Series. Contains mature content. A complete list of content warnings can be found on the author's website. Narrated in duet style.

This was a longer read but the story telling was very immersive and made the time pass quickly.

What a fantastic audio!

These two had me sucked into this plot from the start. I loved that they seem to really start as individuals and then float into a gorgeous couple that is dependent on each other for mental health survival! Cal really is Ryan’s dark angel.

To preface this, I am new to dark romance. It’s hard for me to find titles that hit all the right notes for me. Dark romance tends to go into a lot of places and so everyone’s taste in the style of book is very different. All I can say is that hit all the right notes for me. I will give warning at the first intimate scene for me was a little bit too non-con for my liking. And there was a scene near the end of the story the plays a little with blood in blades also not my bag. We all need different things from this genre so no judging. Aside from those two scenes that danced on the edge of my boundaries. The story was very enthralling and exciting. The characters, quirky and engaging. And even if you’re not reading it for the romance aspect, it’s quite the enjoyable read despite it. The relationships, character situations, and overall world building of the story were phenomenal. I believe this is only the second book from this author that I’ve had the chance to enjoy. But from what I’ve seen so far, she is shaping up to be one of my favorites. The title alone drew me to this book and let me say it did not disappoint. They say you can’t charge your book by title/cover. And hats off to the voice talent he did a phenomenal job, bringing his characters in world to life. This is a strong recommend for me. 10 out of 10 serial killers in love with mediums. lol💜

Well, that was exciting!

It started out good. Somewhere along the way it got repetitive and some of the things that happened b/w mmcs to “heal” seemed unnecessary. i was super excited for it so it was kinda disappointing.

3/5

This sometimes felt like it was written by some bad AI program. It was off to a great start but then it spread out all over the place and actually crumbled. It failed to properly weave/dose the fantastical elements with the characters personal journeys and the story ends up feeling like a bad patchwork of many genres and tropes that just don't mesh well.

Great characters, good narration, terrible storytelling
