A slow start but great ending
I’ll be honest, at first I did not believe the hype about this series. It’s a slow start and I found the character development took a while to find the footing and chemistry between MCs. But then around 75% in the whole thing comes together and the last few chapters will have listeners hooked. I loved the cocky swagger of Dacre and the strength of Nyra. I’m so excited to continue this series on audio!

would read book 2
overall I enjoyed it although intimacy scenes were a bit unrealistic especially last part of book seeing as though main character is a virgin felt aggressive.

a great start to a new series!
The Veiled Kingdom solidified Holly Renee as an auto-buy author for me. If you loved her Stars & Shadows series, you'll find this one equally captivating.
Holly Renee demonstrates an impressive ability to pack character development, action, spice, and world-building into short to average-length books. While many fantasy novels tend to be lengthy to accommodate extensive storytelling and worldbuilding, Renee achieves this with finesse. Her narrative is richly layered, yet avoids overwhelming or confusing the reader. On the other hand, her books never feel like they lack the important details either.
Her worldbuilding is incredibly digestible, making her books appealing not only to fantasy enthusiasts but also to those exploring romantasy as beginners.
The plot of The Veiled Kingdom is incredibly intriguing, featuring a unique world and compelling romance, character, and relationship development that hits all the right notes.
Nyra is a captivating character, displaying remarkable strength after fleeing her abusive father (the king) to live on the streets. Her journey is deeply engaging and easy to become invested in.
Dacre, the brooding and charismatic warrior and son of the rebellion's leader, adds depth to the story with his complex dynamics with Nyra, his family and friends. Their relationship strikes a perfect balance of tension, trust issues, mutual assistance, and growing feelings against their will.
The bond between Dacre's sister and Nyra adds an extra layer of intrigue and depth to the narrative.
I'm eagerly anticipating the exploration of Nyra's undiscovered powers in the upcoming books.

Love this series
Loved both book 1 & 2 I will definitely listen to Hunted Heir after its audio release! can’t wait for book 3

what the hell was this book
the MMC give major rapey vibes, the FMC is very dull. super predictable as well. highly do not recommend if you've experienced any sexual trauma.

amazing
I loved this book so much and the audio book was perfect! They embodied the characters perfectly i was always able to be locked into the story. sometimes my mind wanders while listening to other audiobooks but not this one!!

Wow! What a great read!
I really enjoyed this book and I'm super excited to see what happens next, since, well .. that ending! 🤯
I liked how this book was a lot different than most romantasy books, as the FMC was actually struggling in life to find her purpose and was sheltered in a way that made her vulnerable to attacks.
This book was like one giant training montage, with a sprinkle of some sexual tension between the two main characters.

more romance than fantasy
Smutty with very little story, background or world building. Much more romance then fantasy. No slow burn, wasn't really rooting for the couple to work out to be honest. Language used is a bit of a put off too.
