Aileen Bartlett was born in Belfast in 1976, the fourth of eight children. As an English teacher she started writing short stories and flash fiction set in Belfast to encourage reluctant readers. She set about researching her family history a few years ago and wrote her first novel "Buckle My Shoe" about her Granny Cassie and Great-Aunt Alice who grew up in Belfast during World War 1, The Easter Rising and the 1920s Troubles. Aileen continues to work as a teacher, while running a part-time home bakery named after her Granny, Cassie's Cake Room. Aileen is currently working on a cookery book to accompany "Buckle My Shoe" and her second novel.
