Alexandra V. Méndez is a writer, teacher, and scholar. Born in New Jersey, she grew up bilingual in Decatur, Georgia, with family roots in Mexico and Mississippi. She graduated from Harvard University in History and Literature and has a Ph.D. in Latin American and Iberian Cultures from Columbia University. She has taught Spanish language, translation, and Hispanic culture. In her writing she draws on her expertise in Latin American history, her experiences growing up in a multicultural household in the South, and her observations of the diverse Latinx experience. Her debut novel What the Jaguar Told Her is out now, and the Spanish edition, Lo que le contó el jaguar, will be released on November 7, 2023.
