Allison Tom grew up in New York, and she learned the art of writing from Frank McCourt (who, by some strange coincidence, is the "sample biography" that Amazon provides to authors as inspiration). She attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, where she graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and Education. Allison moved to the Bay Area, CA, and she worked as a Senior Cat Herder (a.k.a, Senior Project Manager) at a number of consulting and technology companies. She was laid off from her most recent (and last!) job in 2015 and retired early with her husband, Dylin. They created two blogs, www.Experiencify.com, which inspires people to enjoy life through experiences rather than possessions, and www.RetireBy45.com, which teaches people about the FIRE movement. They now spend their time traveling the world (their goal is #60by60, traveling to 60 countries by the time they turn 60), giving back to the community, and educating people on how to be Financially Independent so that they, too, can Retire Early!
