Since 2016, Barry Trachtenberg holds the Michael R. and Deborah K. Rubin Presidential Chair of Jewish History at Wake Forest University. He was trained in Jewish history at the University of California, Los Angeles (Ph.D.), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Oxford University (Post-graduate Diploma) and also holds degrees from the University of Vermont (M.A. in U.S. history) and Rowan University of New Jersey (B.A. in English). From 2003-2016, Trachtenberg was on the faculty at the University at Albany, SUNY. He serves on the Board of Scholars of Facing History and Ourselves. He also serves on the Academic Advisory Boards of Jewish Voice for Peace. He writes occasional pieces and lecture on the topics of Zionism, antisemitism, and US support for Israel. These have appeared in forums such as the Forward, Tablet, Electronic Intifada, Mondoweiss, Die Tageszeitung (German), A2larm (Czech), and La Razón (Spanish).
