I have several loves and two of them make their way into my books - people and wonderful stories. My big work is Dirt - a huge fantasy saga set over hundreds of years. This is most definitely a saga and the story is built around the characters both human and dragon. It is currently in two series with a third on the distant horizon. I love my characters to have humour and to be able to make silly jokes even in the darkest of moments. So do not be surprised if dreadful wars are interrupted by moments of idiocy or my huge, powerful, noble dragons fart when they eat too much fish! But all of them are real, and when the time is right, I let them cry and grieve. Another love is London, and my book The Stink is set in the 1970s when I grew up. It is about a young band trying to get a gig while battling against racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and murderous tramps. Did I mention it was a comedy? Children's book coming soon too!
