I am a retired orthopaedic surgeon with extensive experience in Melbourne and Cairns, including being Director of Orthopaedics in Cairns. I developed an interest in ethics and have a Master of Bioethics and a PhD through the Centre of Human Bioethics in The Arts Faculty at Monash University. I have published papers on ethics, bone tumours, clinical pathways and indigenous health. I have been an Associate Professor in Ethics and Professional Development and an Adjunct Associate Professor in Surgery at James Cook University in North Queensland. I have considerable teaching experience. I am presently writing a companion book detailing my experiences and extensive research on my thesis subject of 'Trust and Betrayal', including references to the topics discussed in ‘Trust in the Tribe’. I am a co-coordinator of a literature group in the University of the Third Age in Hawthorn, Australia. My work now is to teach others about what it is like to be a surgeon, and the expanding place for women in surgery. I feel strongly about the importance of trust in all its manifestations.
