Deanna was born and raised amongst the sandstone mesas of Aztec, New Mexico. Most of her childhood was spent chasing her siblings through sagebrush, cacti and sprawling pastures. Years of hunting for lizards, milking goats, exploring ruins, reading Tolkien with her dad and inventing crazy things—like a wheelchair for a chicken with a broken leg—teased a dreamer and doer out of a very shy child. Those adventuresome younger years helped stoke Deanna’s imagination and fuel her desire to write as an adult. Now she lives at the other end of the same desert under the shadow of the Oquirrh Mountains in Erda, Utah with her husband and four children. It is here; just south of the Great Salt Lake, that she continues to build worlds with words.
