I'm the author of the novel IN WILDERNESS, coming out from Bantam, a Penguin Random House imprint, in March 2015. A long-ago first draft of the manuscript titled THE CLEARING was nominated for a Pushcart Editors' Prize in the mid-1980s. Here's what several other writers have said about IN WILDERNESS after reading the page proofs: "I love, love, love this book--the fearless and unflinching story, . . . genuine suspense and a wonderfully empowering ending. Altogether spectacular." -- Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author of PERSONAL "A harrowing exploration of desire and obsession." -- Christina Baker Kline, #1 New York Times bestselling author of ORPHAN TRAIN "A mad,... dreamlike story of love, obsession, and wildness....Unforgettable. -- William Landay, New York Times bestselling author of DEFENDING JACOB "An extraordinary novel, filled with both darkness and light." -- Ron Rash, PEN/Faulkner Award Finalist and New York Times bestselling author of SERENA and SOMETHING RICH AND STRANGE "Heartbreaking, bold, relentless, and intensely erotic." -- Joshilyn Jackson, New York Times bestselling author of SOMEONE ELSE'S LOVE STORY "[T]his astonishing novel radiates power from beginning to end. -- Frank Huyler, author of THE LAWS OF INVISIBLE THINGS and RIGHT OF THIRST "Original and dynamic....I devoured every word." -- Carla Buckley, author of THE DEEPEST SECRET "Utterly compelling!" -- Vicki Lane, author of UNDER THE SKIN "Hypnotic....This is a fine novel and the spell is a deep one." -- Joseph Monninger, author of ETERNAL ON THE WATER "A mesmerizing literary ballet, ... hauntingly performed by two of the most memorable characters to appear in recent American literature. This is a great, great read." -- Terry Kay, author of TO DANCE WITH THE WHITE DOG and THE BOOK OF MARIE You can find out more about IN WILDERNESS on my website (Google me) and on my Facebook DianeThomasAuthor Page. My debut novel, THE YEAR THE MUSIC CHANGED: THE LETTERS OF ACHSA McEACHERN-ISAACS AND ELVIS PRESLEY, got a starred review from Library Journal and was a Book Sense "Notable Book" when it came out in 2005. Publishers Weekly called it "Warm, lively and immensely readable," Kirkus termed it "Sweet and gripping, a touching coming-of-age tale," and the reviewer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution compared it with Harper Lee's classic TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. I was a lifelong resident of Atlanta and north Georgia and part-time resident of the Florida panhandle, before relocating to New Mexico in 2009. I have an MFA in Theater and Film History and Criticism from Columbia University and studied in the Creative Writing program at Georgia State University. The only things I've ever gotten paid to do are write and edit. I've been a reporter, film and theater critic, and entertainment editor for the Atlanta Constitution; a staff feature writer for Atlanta Magazine; and a freelance writer/editor, a job where I wrote everything from nationally published magazine articles to a media information kit for a mausoleum and a 250-page janitorial training manual that included forty pages on how to clean a toilet. (I swear this last is true -- I may write fiction, but I couldn't make stuff like that up.) There's more on my website, and on Facebook at DianeThomasAuthor. If you're in a book group and want to discuss either IN WILDERNESS or THE YEAR THE MUSIC CHANGED, email me on my website or message me on Facebook and if you'd like I'll do a free speakerphone call at your meeting. Or Skype if I learn how. Or show up in person if you meet in or near Santa Fe. That's pretty much it for now. Thanks so much for your interest. And as we say back in Georgia, take much good care.
