Elena Passarello is an actor and writer originally from Charleston, SC. Her essays on performance, pop culture, and the natural world have appeared in Oxford American, Virginia Quarterly Review, Slate, Paris Review and the New York Times Book Review, as well as the anthologies Cat is Art Spelled Wrong and Little Boxes: Twelve Writers on Television. In 2015, she won the Whiting Award for nonfiction. Her first collection, Let Me Clear My Throat, won the gold medal for nonfiction at the 2013 IPPY awards and was a finalist for the 2014 Oregon Book Award. Her 2017 collection, Animals Strike Curious Poses, is being reprinted in Italy, Germany, and the UK. Elena lives in Corvallis, Oregon, where she is an Assistant Professor at Oregon State University.
