The Most Rev. William Byrne, STL Fr. Bill Byrne (now Bishop Byrne) is a native of Washington, DC and was appointed in October 2020 by Pope Francis to be the 10th Bishop of Springfield in Massachusetts. He was ordained and installed by Cardinal Sean O'Malley on December 14, 2020. Previously he served as the pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Potomac, Maryland. His "5 Things" videos can be found on YouTube. He has taught homiletics to the seminarians of the North American College in Rome and has spoken at priest and lay convocations across the United States. In 2016 Pope Francis named Fr. Byrne a Missionary of Mercy for the Jubilee Year of Mercy. His dog Zélie credits herself as the muse for his writing.
