JJ has been writing since childhood. His poem “A Book Is a Best Friend,” written in Mrs. Farran’s second-grade class, was his first major accomplishment, and he hasn’t looked back since. As an adult, he has written two musicals for middle-school students (Different Lives, Star Harbor)—both performed by the schools’ drama clubs where he taught. He has also penned a young-adult novella (The Perfect Moment), a musical based on the novella (Finally Time), and a play (Notes), which was the precursor to this book series. JJ was born and mostly raised in Brooklyn, New York, and now resides in New Jersey with his wife, daughter, son, and unnecessarily dramatic Boston terrier. He taught middle school and high school for eleven years and now works as an assessment specialist for a state university. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, playing the piano, bike riding, speaking Spanish and French, watching and occasionally umpiring baseball, and—of course—writing!
