From 1991 to 2014 I was Oriel & Laing Professor of the Interpretation of Holy Scripture, University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Oriel College. Since retiring in 2014 I have been a Senior Research Fellow at Campion Hall, a Jesuit college in Oxford. I live in Abingdon near Oxford, and am married with one daughter and two granddaughters. A priest in the Church of England, I assist in the parish of Abingdon-on-Thames. My whole career has been in Oxford, where I studied Theology at Keble College and completed a doctorate in Old Testament studies. From 1974 to 1991 I was Lecturer in Theology (Old Testament) and a Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford.
