Konrad Schmid is professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism at the University of Zurich. Before coming to Zurich, he served as professor of Hebrew Bible at the University of Heidelberg (1999-2002). In 2006-2007 he was a Member in Residence at the Center for Theological Inquiry, Princeton. In 2012-2013, he co-directed a research group on the formation of the Pentateuch at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies in Jerusalem. In the fall term of 2017, he was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Since 2017, he also serves as president of the Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Theologie www.wgth.de and as member of the National Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation. In 2018, he was awarded a Humboldt Research Award and in 2019 an ERC Advanced Grant for the Project “How God Became a Lawgiver”. In 2019, he was elected as the 24th president of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament (IOSOT, 2019-2022). From 2020-2021, he was a Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg at Berlin.
