Linda Oxley Milligan was born in Grandview Heights, in Columbus, Ohio. Her real Columbus home however became The Ohio State University where she earned three degrees culminating in a Ph.D. in English and American Literature with a specialty in folklore. For many years she has taught a variety of composition and folklore classes as an adjunct professor in the English department. Milligan’s novels draw on her love of travel as well as her background in folklore and literature. She seeks to take the reader to many of the places she has traveled but with a distinct insight that is the product of both a folklorist’s eye as well as a vivid imagination that draws from the history and mythos of ancient places. Her science fiction novels and novelettes reflect her folklore fieldwork gathering legends, sighting reports, group analysis, and other perspectives on the subject of UFOs and like phenomena that resulted in a dissertation, oral papers, and published articles. Milligan says, “Fieldwork involves spending time just listening to people, researching the media many beliefs are drawn from, while trying to understand the place UFOs and related beliefs hold in American culture. It’s actually a giant place. Belief of all kinds is how we fill the gap between what is known and what remains outside of our knowledge. I think I’ve always had an interest in both and never shied away from speculation and wonder.”
