Dr. Marian O. Hodges and Anne P. Hill are the authors of the Help is Here series, which includes: Help is Here: When someone you love has dementia (English and Spanish); Help is Here: When a resident has dementia; and a companion leader manual for Help is Here: When a resident has dementia to help a leader at a senior residence teach Help is Here: When a resident has dementia. Marian O. Hodges, MD, MPH, is a nationally known geriatrician, the Bain Chair of Geriatric Medicine, and regional medical director of the Senior Health Program for Providence Health and Services in Oregon. She is the recipient of the 2016 Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Senior Physician Award for excellence in care at end of life. In her position with the Senior Health Program, she provides expertise and strategic direction regarding the coordination of care planning accross Providence services and clinical programs for older adults. She is currently the Medical Director of Providence Elder at Home, an interdisciplinary homecare clinical program for select, frail and medically complex seniors. Dr. Hodges has been a part of the teaching faculty for the Inernal Medicine Residency Program at Providence Portland Medical Center since 1992, and continues to coordinate postgraduate training in geriatric medicine for the residents. In 2005, she joined the staff of Providence Center for Health Care as a physician-ethicist to deepen her focus on ethics and palliative medicine education, end-of-life, and cross-cultural issues. With a heart for seniors and love of their wisdom and wit, Dr. Hodges continues to practice geriatric medicine part-time within Providence Medical Group-Northeast. Anne P. Hill, JD, is a retired attorney and the author of Unforgettable Journey: Tips to Survive Your Parent's Alzheimer's Disease. Unforgettable Journey is a short, readable book that gives adult children of people with Alzheimer's disease realistic, easy-to-understand tips about how to approach the many challenges of having a parent with dementia. She is a member of the State Plan for Alzheimer's Disease in Oregon (SPADO) Task Force and two of it's committees, one focusing on creating a dementia-capable workforce in Oregon and another studying the alternatives for those with dementia who have significant behavioral issues. She is a frequent speaker to families and medical providers about the effects of Alzheimer's disease on families, family coping mechanisms, and the importance of effective communication between the physician, the caregiver(s), and the family.
