Michael P. Patrick is a husband, father, and ICU survivor. After a car accident and a serious complication during cervical spine surgery, he became critically ill and spent weeks in the intensive care unit, including time on a ventilator in a medically induced coma. While he does not remember the first week, he vividly remembers the days that followed—marked by severe ICU delirium, hallucinations, and fear that reshaped his understanding of survival and recovery. The experience profoundly affected not only Michael, but his wife and family, who endured their own trauma while waiting, hoping, and learning that discharge from the ICU is not the end of the story. Encouraged by a trauma counselor, Michael began writing as a way to process what happened. That writing became I See U: A Memoir of Survival and Shadows, his first book, which explores critical illness, post-ICU life, and the often unseen toll these experiences take on patients and their loved ones. Michael is committed to advocacy, education, and amplifying survivor and caregiver voices, with a focus on ARDS, ICU delirium, and Post-Intensive Care Syndrome. He lives with his family in Florida.
